Presswork

What is Presswork?

Presswork is primarily the cutting and forming of sheet materials or coil by means of passing through dedicated forming and cutting tools in a power press.

This process tends to lend its hand to large scale production as press tools can be expensive; so is only usually cost-effective on bulk runs.

Presswork Process

While the exact processes vary depending on the type of machine press used, most machine presses work by pressing a plate or die into sheet metal to form the desired shape.

The metal sheets can either be placed into the machine manually, or on some machines it can be fed automatically into the desired position.

Once in position, using hydraulic pressure (commonly up to 30 tonne), the machine press pushes die against the surface of the material, which deforms the material into the desired shape.
